Bespoke, and Holistic Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy

Cognitive behavioural therapy is a treatment which supports the identification of negative thoughts and limiting patterns of behaviour – supporting progression towards healthier habits. Mindfulness is the practice of training attention and awareness, in an attitude of self-acceptance and compassion.

At Harley Row Clinic, your Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) therapist will work with you to assess and understand what you would like to achieve through your

mindfulness therapy sessions, tailoring a treatment programme to meet your individual needs and goals.

Working collaboratively with you, in an emotionally safe and contained space, a mental health professional with an MBCT teacher certification will help guide you to bring interpretation and meaning to your biography while integrating self-regulation and somatic quieting skills to achieve a greater experience of presence and deeper understanding of your internal world.

You will be taught cognitive concepts to enable re-framing of your historic beliefs and usual negative associations while integrating various parts of the brain and developing new neural pathways to support healthier and happier ways of being, leading to improved mental health. Our trained MBCT therapists will guide you through this process. Practicing mindfulness and learning cognitive concepts can help you do what works for you rather than second-guessing yourself. Cultivate mindfulness by focusing on the moment without distraction from your inner or outer world. Participate in life without feeling self-conscious. Pay close attention to what is going on around you and take a non-judgmental stance.

The strategies you will learn in sessions can be effective within 4-8 weeks of practice, depending on the level of engagement both in and between sessions. The skills gained are transferable into everyday life, enabling them to be resources on an ongoing basis in all areas of your life, connecting your external and internal world.

MBCT incorporates mindfulness techniques such as mindfulness meditation which help you to focus on the present moment. Learning to practise mindfulness helps improve mental health.

It was developed from mindfulness-based stress reduction programmes, but with the addition of cognitive behaviour therapy to focus on combating negative thoughts. It was specifically made to treat depressive symptoms, and recurrent depression and to prevent depressive relapse. MBCT can help those with depression protect against relapses by not getting caught in negative thought patterns, leading to negative emotions that can augment depression. It can also help those with treatment-resistant depression and recurrent major depressive disorder.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy can be an effective treatment psychological intervention for a range of mental health issues: ADHD, anxiety disorders, low mood, and unhappiness.

At Harley Row Clinic, our three-fold approach recognises that it’s a combination of psychological intervention (therapy, counselling, coaching), medication to treat symptoms if appropriate and functional medicine (gut health, lifestyle, and nutrition) that leads to long-term, lasting results.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy falls under the psychological intervention pathway, and we encourage a combined comprehensive treatment path considering both allopathic and naturopathic treatments alongside mindfulness course and psychological intervention.

Alongside psychological intervention, functional medicine seeks to identify the underlying cause of health issues, instead of just addressing symptoms. The team at Harley Row Clinic use a range of diagnostic tools and assessments to explore genetic, biochemical, and environmental factors that may all contribute to a patient’s condition.

This unique three-principle method, which has been inspired by various schools of thought and experience, focuses on the whole body, and treating the root cause of a condition, not just the symptoms.

The results of tending to your inner life through our MBCT program or similar mindfulness practice, alongside tending to the physical body through functional medicine can be profound – leading to greater self-actualisation, and fulfilment.

Dr. Jeczmien immediately put me at ease and made me confident to talk about ADHD and how it has affected me throughout the years. He is extremely knowledgeable and one who really digs in and is thorough in considering the individual experience. After my few sessions with him, I felt like I was at starting line and that I was enthusiastic about crossing it - understanding that my issues were treatable. Thank you.

Dr Jeczmien was comforting, kind and understanding of my circumstances, and I left the first session feeling listened to. I've spent 5 years going in circles through the mental health systems and had no luck until now. I've struggled to trust health professionals in the past but I'm confident I'm in safe hands and I'm so grateful for his help! Our sessions have allowed me to turn a chapter in my life so that I can take steps forward.
